Hi I dont understand why blonde hair dyes are sold as for one thing if anyone that is darker than light brown, there is only one colour that it will go and that is orange.
But if you are say a medium to dark blonde, do they actually work and do you get a natural result. I have had my hair blonde in the past, but that was with using peroxide and bleach and I find the colour too light and then I have to go over it with a darker colour and it doesnt look natural.
Has anyone used one and did you get a natural blonde look or did it just go all funny ?
Im asking this question as my hair is a mounsy blonde colour, and im wanting to go lighter without hitting for the bottle of bleach, and I do not trust hairdressers. I know obvioulsy there is bleach in the blonde hair dyes as it wouldnt go that colour it there wasnt. But looking on the back of the boxes they are recommended for most light hair colours, and with then having different shades of blonde in the hairdye will it be natural.

I have the cursed "dishwater blonde" color and have done a LOT of experimenting with blonde dyes.
I used the 28 day semi-permanent Loreal colorspa dyes and those seemed better than the permanent ones. I leave them in a few minutes longer and opt for the more natural honey blondes than the platinum blonde colors. They never seem to permanently wash out but as it fades the roots are not as visible - which I love. As they fade you still get the benefit of a lighter shade but your own color comes through a bit and it looks more natural.
The other thing I've found (which I LOVE) is highlighting. I currently have light blonde highlights and they look amazing. I did go to a hairdresser to do it and that may be an option for you. (I know you said you don't trust them, so get a recommendation from a friend on a good stylist ahead of time.) Avoid any place that puts the plastic hood over your head and pulls the hair through that to highlight - because it's uneven and just looks weird. You want someone who does foil highlights. Those are even and throughout all the layers of your hair instead of just the top.
Good luck!

I am dark brown and i tried one once....i prelightened my hair first as it had been previously dyed red, The resulting colour was a lovely blonde. I should have been satisfied but i wanted to try for a better colour with the blonde dye. The result was a spectacular bright white!!! argggh had to dye it back but it still makes me laugh to this day lol chuckle chuckle

If you want a striking major blonde effect go for sun in. But me warned it does wreck your hair.

If you're nervous about going lighter (and orange) I'd recommend getting your first "Dye" job at a salon. They are professionals that know what they are doing (usually)- I once had them accidentally dye my hair black with green undertones- I wanted a medium brown. Anyway, I went to a salon for blonde highlights- which I love- but when the roots grew out, I just went to the store for a highlighting kit. Worked wonderful! Good Luck!

I had to dye my hair three or four times before it actually looked blond. I also leave it in for almost an hour when I'm touching up.
You have to get the absolute lightest shade of blond, I tried ones with yellow tones and I thought it made my hair look like mustard.
I like the color of my hair now, but the texture lacks something to be desired. If I don't condition it every time it's wet, it literally feels like straw. I use to use shampoos with conditioner built in, but they don't work as good anymore with the new color.

I have been colouring my hair for so long now that I can't remember its true colour - probably grey now! I have always lightened it using the cheapest product in the shop. At the moment it is blond and looks pretty natural to me. Have had a few disasters - easily rectified. So yes I would say you can use a lighter hair colour product without peroxide on darker hair

hi well normally any blond does contain lightener agents and hair does react with lightener by going orange or yellow best would be to try ash blond for the ash cancels out the yellow or why not try a few highlights rather than full colour. good luck

Ive tried to go blonde at home loads of times, and it always ends up orange........... and a little bit cheap to be honest!
Id suggest you try highlights first, but if you are determined to go all over blonde....... leave it to the hairdresser, they really do know best!
Blonde hair dyes do they actually work anyone tried one.?
Yes, they do work, IF you get the right shade for your hair, and that varies greatly from person to person. It also sometimes takes a few tries before you get it right.
There is not bleach in all blond hair color. I was a blond who got MUCH darker as I grew into adulthood. I now have rather dark brown hair with red highlights, and as soon as I grow out this jet black I have right now, I can go right back to the most beautiful golden blond you've ever seen with no bleach just like I used to - for me it has to be Clairol HLB (high lift blond), from the beauty supply store.
In order to get rid of red or to not go orange, you must use a blue or violet base. You do not get this kind of info on the boxes of hair color in pharmacies and grocery stores. If you do not want to go to a pro, go to a beauty supply store like Sally's. The managers typically have to be licensed cosmetologists, and they can assist you in picking a product that will give you the result you want.
