Blonde hair: home or salon?

Every time I ask people at salons to bleach my hair blonde, they are not able to get it to the color I want. It always turns out too dark, too yellow, and a solid color without any dimension, rather than the light, natural color that I want. It might be because I've always gone to either aveda or paul mitchell salons that use pretty gentle bleach. However, I think my hair could handle a little coloring right now without getting too damaged, as it is a really healthy dark brown in its virgin state. Would I be better off dying it on my own?

Please go to a salon. Natural brunettes who attempt at home bleaching always end up orange. It will cost you more to get it fixed in a salon, then it will to get it colored there in the first place.

Some bleaches are more gentle than others, but I don't think this is the problem. I think your hair is simply too dark to attempt a realistic blonde all at once.

A better bet for a natural looking blonde is to dye your hair just a few shades lighter, to a light brown and highlight over it. This should be done at a salon. Your hair will be natural looking blonde if you do this. It should get it pretty close to the color you want. If you want it lighter, just ask for more highlights when you go for your retouch. Getting to blonde requires patience. You can't do it all at once, especially when your hair is as dark as yours.

I think you can handle highlights at home, but for serious blond leave it to a pro.

When you see a high maintence blond who has a color you like ask here who her colorist is. She will be flattered.

Also bring in 3-5 pictures of the blond you like.

Or if you see a child with the color you like, ask the mom if you can pay her $1.00 to snip a peice.

I actually had that happen a couple times to me as a kid. I was happy to help.

Good luck!

well, to get a good color you have to pull your color out first so it will take better and last longer. so you will need a salon to do this. if you want deminsion, have them dye it a solid blonde and then have them go back and put bonde highlights in it. that will give it deminsion and make it look more natural!

no way. sont try blonde at home. i have this thick brown haor that i tried doing blonde. and it turned orange, one chemical embalance and i happened to kill my hair, **** happens. but still switch salons. say that u want your hair bleached, but with higlights and somelowlights to add demension. dont go to some crappy salon. they suck. but yeah, take my advice.

Hmm.

This girl I know had brown hair then dyed it blonde and its FrIED OuT! If you're close

to 100% sure you can do it,do It.

But be extremely careful. You would not want to look like that girl...

Bring pictures in if u go 2 a Salon.

WELL IF I WERE U I WOULD DO IT AT HOME, BECAUSE ONCE I WENT TO A SALON TO GET SOME HIGHLIGHTS AND THEY FRIED MY HAIR I WAS SO MAD CAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED AND FROM THERE ON I HAVE DONE HIGHLIGHTS AND BLEACH BLONDE HAIR MYSELF AND IT COMES OUT THE WAY I LIKE IT. I ALWAYS USE

LO-REAL BLEACH BLONDE.

i would not suggest doing blond on dark hair by yourself. especially if you use bleach. more than likely your hair will turn orange. i would go to a proessional. they can not only bleach it correctly but they can highlight and lowlight to give your hair depth as well as give you the results you want. and it could be all done the same time.
